Day in the life of a Cloud Engineer
Hey friends,
Have you ever wondered what a day in the life of a cloud engineer looks like?
Today, I'm going to give you a behind-the-scenes look at my daily routine, from my morning rituals to my late-night coding sessions.
6:00 AM - Wake up, pray, and plan my day
I start my day early with prayer and reflection. This helps me centre myself and set my intentions for the day ahead. I review my tasks and priorities, making sure I'm focused on the things that matter most.
7:00 AM - Hit the gym
Physical fitness is crucial for mental clarity and stamina. I hit the gym for a high-intensity boxing and conditioning workout. This gets my blood pumping and puts me in the right headspace to tackle the challenges of the day.
8:30 AM - Create content for my YouTube channel
Sharing knowledge is one of my passions, so I dedicate time each morning to creating content for my YouTube channel, "Tech with Soleyman." I research topics, script videos, and record content that I hope will help aspiring cloud engineers on their journey.
10:30 AM - Deep work on cloud projects
With my content creation done, I dive into deep work on my cloud projects. This might involve designing architectures, writing Infrastructure as Code (IaC), or troubleshooting issues. I focus on the most challenging and impactful tasks during this time when my energy and focus are at their peak.
12:30 PM - Lunch and learn
I believe in continuous learning, so I often spend my lunch break reading industry blogs, watching technical talks, or experimenting with new technologies. Typically I go out for lunch for a long walk, put the podcast on and off I go.
1:30 PM - Collaboration and meetings
The afternoon is often dedicated to collaboration and meetings. I much prefer meetings later in the day. I connect with my team, discussing current projects, YouTube videos, Marketing and strategising solutions. I may also have calls with clients to discuss their needs and present solutions.
4:00 PM - Cloud Engineer Academy
As the founder of the Cloud Engineer Academy, I spend time each day supporting our students and improving the program. This might involve answering questions in our Discord community, updating course content, or hosting live Q&A sessions.
6:00 PM - Personal projects and skill development
Evenings are for self-development and improving my knowledge and skills, this is when I work on building my cloud applications or learning new cloud services and tools.
8:00 PM - Wind down and prepare for tomorrow
As the day comes to a close, I take some time to wind down and prepare for tomorrow. I review my completed tasks, update my to-do list, and set out my priorities for the next day. I also take some time to relax, whether that's reading a book, or spending time with family.
Throughout the day, I also engage with my online community. I respond to comments on my YouTube videos, reply to emails from my newsletter subscribers, and share insights on Twitter and LinkedIn.
Of course, no two days are exactly the same.
The world of cloud engineering is dynamic and ever-changing, and I need to be adaptable and ready for new challenges at any moment.
But having a structured routine helps me stay grounded, focused, and productive, my mornings are fundamental to my day.
Win the morning to win the day.
The key is to find a routine that allows you to balance your technical work, continuous learning, and personal well-being.
If you're curious to learn more about the day-to-day life of a cloud engineer or have any questions about my journey, just hit reply. I'm always happy to share more.
Until next time, keep learning and keep growing.
