Hey Friends,
This week, I hosted a Live Q&A in my Private Cloud Discord community, and a common question that gets asked is what you should learn first when starting a career in the cloud.
Many beginners get confused, do they focus on Security, DevOps, Architecture, or Data? These questions are normal because the cloud world is massive.
I always recommend beginners to not focus on a speciality ie security for example. This is a specialist area, so as a beginner you want to focus on topics as wide as possible and then niche down into a speciality after a few years of working in the industry.
So first always learn the cloud in general, focus on becoming a generalist and then a specialist. A generalist will know and have worked on the topics shared in the image above but over time specialise where they like most. Therefore being a Cloud Engineer is the best role to start with in your cloud journey as you will be exposed to everything possible in the cloud world, and then you can specialise.
Project Updates:
We are just under 2 weeks until the launch of my Cloud Engineer Handbook, which I am so excited to share with you all.
It’s going to be the perfect place to read through what it’s like being a cloud engineer and how to become one.
My first-ever video course is also in the works, and I love how it’s coming together. This will be a self-paced video course as an extension of the Cloud Engineer Handbook where you can put things into practice and start building towards your Cloud career.
Launching January 2024. It’s not just a course, it’s a private cloud community where you will be part of a global network of cloud/tech enthusiasts.
Thanks to all who have pre-ordered the Cloud Engineer Handbook / Cloud Engineer Course. I appreciate your support and I will do my best to deliver one of the best cloud education platforms.
Have a great week,
Soleyman
